Enter each course grade and its credit hours, using the grade scale required by your school. Include only courses that count toward the GPA you are trying to calculate.
Convert each grade to grade points, multiply by its course credits, and add the results. GPA = total grade points earned / total GPA credits attempted.
Suppose a student earns an A in a 3-credit course, a B in a 4-credit course, and a C in a 2-credit course on a 4.0 scale. GPA = ((4 × 3) + (3 × 4) + (2 × 2)) / 9 = 28 / 9, or 3.11.
Not when courses have different credit values. A four-credit course contributes twice as much as a two-credit course with the same grade.
Many schools exclude passing grades from GPA calculations but may count a failing grade. Policies differ, so use your school's rules before treating the result as official.
