Grade Calculator

This calculator combines assignment scores and category weights for students checking their current or projected course grade.

The interactive grade calculator loads right here. If it hasn't appeared, refresh the page.

Enter each assignment or category score and its weight as listed in the syllabus. Make sure the included weights total 100%, unless you are calculating a current grade from only the work completed so far.

Weighted grade = sum of each score × its weight ÷ sum of the included weights. When all weights total 100%, this is the same as adding score × weight ÷ 100 for every item.

Worked example

Suppose homework is 92% with a 30% weight, exams are 84% with a 50% weight, and a project is 95% with a 20% weight. The final grade is (92 × 30 + 84 × 50 + 95 × 20) ÷ 100 = 88.6%.

Common questions

Why do the weights need to add to 100%?

A complete course grade normally assigns every graded category a share of the full 100%. If the weights do not total 100%, a calculator may normalize them or show only a partial grade.

Is this the same as GPA?

No. This calculates a percentage grade, while GPA converts course grades into points using a school-specific scale.
