Water Intake Calculator

This calculator gives a general daily water estimate for adults who want a practical hydration starting point.

The interactive water intake calculator loads right here. If it hasn't appeared, refresh the page.

Enter body weight and adjust for exercise, heat, pregnancy, or breastfeeding if the calculator provides those options. Count water and other hydrating drinks, while remembering that food also supplies part of daily fluid.

A common weight-based estimate is daily water in milliliters = body weight in kilograms × 35. Added exercise water can be estimated separately, and this rule should not replace medical fluid limits.

Worked example

For a 70 kg adult, estimated daily water = 70 × 35 = 2,450 mL. That is about 2.45 liters before adjustments for exercise, heat, illness, or clinician instructions.

Common questions

Do coffee and tea count?

Yes, they generally contribute to fluid intake despite containing caffeine. Water remains the simplest option because it adds no sugar or calories.

Can drinking too much water be harmful?

Yes. Excessive intake over a short period can dilute blood sodium, and people with kidney, heart, or liver conditions may need specific limits from a clinician.
