Enter any two values from distance, elapsed time, and pace, then calculate the missing value. Keep the distance unit consistent, since a pace of 8:00 per mile is quite different from 8:00 per kilometer.
Pace = time / distance. Time = pace × distance, and distance = time / pace, with time converted to seconds or decimal minutes before calculating.
A runner covering 10 kilometers in 52 minutes has a pace of 52 / 10 = 5.2 minutes per kilometer. That converts to 5 minutes 12 seconds per kilometer.
Divide minutes per mile by 1.60934. An 8:00 mile pace is about 4:58 per kilometer.
Treadmills remove wind resistance and may have calibration errors, while outdoor routes add turns and changing surfaces. A small incline is sometimes used to make treadmill effort more comparable, but it is still an approximation.
