Enter the bill amount before tip, choose a tip percentage, and add the number of people paying. Use the final total from the receipt only if it does not already include gratuity.
Tip = bill amount × tip percentage ÷ 100. Total = bill amount + tip, and each person's share = total ÷ number of people.
For an $86.40 bill with an 18% tip, the tip is $86.40 × 18 ÷ 100 = $15.55. The total is $101.95, or $25.49 each when split four ways after rounding.
Many people calculate the tip from the subtotal before tax, but tipping on the after-tax total is also common. Check which amount you entered so the result matches your preference.
An equal split will not account for different orders. Calculate each person's food and drink total separately, then apply the chosen tip percentage to each amount.
