DoesWhat reader update

Hello. Thanks for sticking with DoesWhat. Your continued support is genuinely appreciated. I’d just like to update you and talk about the direction of DoesWhat.

DoesWhat is a tech news site/blog, the problem is that competing with larger sites employing full time bloggers isn’t feasible. Also I don’t want the site to be a regurgitation of other websites and I’ve tried to avoid doing exactly that. It’s difficult and I’d rather DoesWhat was more of a commentator. Generally though I’d like it to become (more) informal, sometimes obscure, sometimes controversial and provoking, also giving credit where deserved and recommendations when worthy.

On another note, we’ve launched a couple of external websites. File.vg is a web application archive, which admittedly isn’t in full flow yet, but will be shortly.

File.vg

URL DW is a simple URL redirection tool that allows custom URLs, passwords, cloaking and the ability to add and edit multiple URLs. Take advantage now while 2 character redirections are still available. For example, http://doeswhat.com/2009/03/25/google-docs-find-and-replace/ can be found at http://urldw.com/7.

Stay tuned for a quick post about our visit to Gadget Show Live on Friday and also a rant about some of the big names in tech news.
